Stakeholder communications hub
Difficult conversations
When a business is under pressure, silence usually makes the situation harder. Prepare the facts, understand what you are asking for, and communicate clearly.
Why communicate
Lenders react badly to silence. Early, factual contact is usually better than waiting for a covenant breach or missed payment to surface.
What information to prepare
- Current cash position and a short projection
- The cause of pressure in one or two honest sentences
- What you are already doing about it
- The specific ask, and what it achieves
A reasonable request might involve
Temporary flexibility on repayments, an overdraft extension, or breathing space while you stabilise — backed by evidence, not hope.
What not to promise
- Promising payments you cannot realistically make
- Overstating future sales to secure support
- Letting contact lapse once a facility is relaxed
This hub offers practical communication guidance. It does not state that any counterparty will agree, and employment or restructuring communications are not legal redundancy or consultation advice. Where formal processes apply, seek professional HR or legal advice.
Turnaround Toolkit provides practical planning tools and guidance for UK business owners. It does not determine solvency or insolvency, and is not a substitute for professional legal, insolvency, accounting or financial advice.
